Work is underway at Goat Bridge on the river Wandle to lower a 1.6m weir, improve the river channel through the installation of berms and create a new flood storage area and wetland habitat.

This project will enhance 500m of chalk stream habitat and make this section of the river passable to fish so that they can access different parts of the river for food, refuge and spawning.

The final stage of this project is planting the newly installed berms, which have narrowed the river channel to create a more natural width and shape.

A selection of native plants will be planted, and once established they will help to stabilise the berms and support the diverse range of wildlife that calls the Wandle home.

We will provide all necessary tools and equipment.

If you are travelling by car, please don’t park along the Trading Estate Road, there is unrestricted street parking available along Budge Road.

What to bring: 

We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits but please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.

Please dress appropriately and wear sturdy shoes or wellies.

This event is not suitable for under 16’s. Unaccompanied 16 and 17 year old’s will need written parental consent.
